"Our family adventure in the San Juan Islands was unforgettable. We paddled through sunshine and rain, explored hidden bays, and gathered each evening to eat, swim, and laugh together. Every detail was thoughtfully cared for, making it easy to relax and fully enjoy the experience. The balance of adventure, connection, and simple fun made for incredible memories we’ll carry for a lifetime.”

"The landscape for raising young humans is complex. Working with a coach through Solutions Family Support hasn’t “fixed” everything—it’s helped me grow alongside my children. I’ve learned to face my own shortcomings with humility and courage, to approach my kids with curiosity and empathy, and to support their independence within healthy boundaries. It’s been a powerful step toward lasting connection and a life worth living."

Alan shows up with an open heart, a true love for nature, and a belief in the power of being just outside your comfort zone so that growth is possible. As a certified life coach, he brings his ability to hold a non-judgmental space and fosters a growth mindset through the act of living true to the growth mindset principles himself.

Todd has spent 18 years guiding families through wild places — and he knows that something shifts when people step outside their everyday lives together. As the founder of Breakwater Expeditions and a seasoned outdoor educator, he combines deep logistical expertise with a genuine passion for human connection. On this journey, he's the one making sure everything runs seamlessly so your family can focus on what matters.
Each day brings a mix of activities, shared meals, time to relax, and meaningful family connection. Activities will include sea kayaking and nature walks. Families will take part in guided conversation prompts that help communication, connection, and togetherness. It’s not clinical or structured like therapy—just practical guidance and real conversations that happen naturally throughout the experience.
Mornings start with breakfast and a relaxed group check-in before activities. Each day will include an activity - sea kayaking, nature walk, etc. Evenings include dinner, campfire conversation, and a short reflection or coaching session before turning in for the night. Every day balances activity with space to unwind and reconnect. There will be playful activities to bring everyone into joy and togetherness.
You’ll be guided by the professional team at Breakwater Expeditions, who have more than 20 years of wilderness adventure experience, along with a Solutions Family Support coach who specializes in family communication and connection. Both are with you every step of the way to ensure a safe and meaningful experience.
Not at all. No prior paddling or camping experience is required. All gear, training, and support are provided. Paddling days are designed for families and include frequent breaks. If you enjoy being outside, you’ll be right at home.
You’ll camp in a beautiful, secluded campground near the water each night and stay in a hotel the first and last night of the trip. All camping gear, meals, and supplies are included. We camp in high-quality tents and blow-up sleeping pads to rest upon, designed to give you space and comfort.
This isn’t therapy, it’s therapeutic. Coaching focuses on building communication, trust, and confidence through shared experience, not clinical treatment. You’ll come home with tools you can actually use every day, not just good intentions. The activities and programming will be customized to the needs of each family. As simple as playing a game together will bring out information and opportunity to families to look inward to how they are showing up with their loved ones. It is our goal to provide you with observation, education, and empathy to help guide and nurture relationships.
That’s completely okay — most families don’t arrive perfectly in sync. This experience is designed to lower stress, ease tension, and help you reconnect in new ways.
If your family is currently in a significant crisis or needs intensive therapeutic support, this may not be the right fit at the moment. We’d love to talk with you and help point you in the right direction — please reach out so we can explore together
